About HiSIG

The Hawaiʻi School on Internet Governance is a regional School of Internet Governance and part of the Dynamic Coalition on Schools of Internet Governance. Our purpose is to raise awareness and build capacity about digital technologies within the Hawaiʻi and Pacific region.

The idea for a Hawaiʻi School on Internet Governance (HiSIG) was born out of a discussion with the Internet Governance Secretariat while at the World Summit on the Information Society or WSIS+20 in Geneva, Switzerland, in July 2025. This inaugural event includes 4 days (Aug 31 – Sept 3) of hands on training on CTNYʻs Portable Network Kit, enabling communities to built and support their own Community Broadband Networks. Then on Friday, September 4, 2026, HiSIG will conclude with a symposium with the following program.

Participants in the Hawaiʻi School on Internet Governance gain an understanding of the Internet, learn what factors shape the Internet, and contribute to the evolution of our digital pilina.
